Float Up Service at Fisherman's Wharf in Hot Springs.

Enjoying the great weather on Lake Hamilton? Want a bite to eat? Head over to the east side of the Highway 7 bridge and pull up and dock at Fisherman’s Wharf.

As you might expect, the internal d├ęcor of such a place brings to mind the days of maritime exploration and commercial fishing, with an abundance of nets and wave-washed signs, life preservers and trophy catches.  Little has changed over the years as far as the atmosphere of the place.

The menu offers many seafood dishes – how could it not, being such an entity?  From coconut shrimp bites and fried calamari on the appetizer menu to mahi mahi, orange roughy, flounder and grouper amongst the entrees, you’ll find most anything that makes water its home available for consumption.

I like a lot of things on the menu.  One of my favorites is the Wharf Crab Cake, which is bigger than you might think.  It’s the size of a hamburger patty, packed with lump crab meat, dusted with Creole seasoning, blackened and served with a ruddy remoulade.  It’s enough for a meal in itself.

Another winner is the Galley Catch Platter, which includes a whole whitefish fillet, shrimp on a skewer and crab-stuffed shrimp, seasoned and grilled and served with a choice of sides.

You can also get your fill of good seafood from the daily specials, which can include everything from
scallops to sea bass.  And if you don’t care for things that swim, try one of the restaurant’s many steaks. Sandwiches are also available, including Louisiana-style po’boy sandwiches.  And raw oysters are available at market prices.

And then there’s dessert, which includes an excellent carrot cake, a chocolate-raspberry duet cake, cheesecake and Key lime pie.

Best of all, when you’re done, you can just undock and head back on the water.  No worries if you’re not traveling by boat – Fisherman’s Wharf also has a parking lot.

You’ll find Fisherman’s Wharf at 5101 Central Avenue in Hot Springs. For more information, call (501) 525-7427 or check out the restaurant’s Facebook page.
