Massive Burgers at The Blue Rooster in Flora, Mississippi.

When a burger's so big that a fork is the only real tool you should consider in consuming it, that's a big burger. Watch our Instagrams unfold as Grav and I dig into a couple of the utterly massive cooked-to-order burgers at The Blue Rooster.

We were at the end of our trip, one that had started with a lengthy, languid venture from Little Rock to New Orleans, included several days in the French Quarter during the Southern Foodways Alliance Summer Field Trip, and stretched into a relaxed drive along US Highway 90 from there to Biloxi. Now it was time to head home.

You know us. We had to bring up food. In this case, it was following the recommendation of my phone to head to a non-chain burger joint off US Highway 49 - a shuffle into small town Mississippi, a slide into the gravel surrounding a little long brick building right by the tracks in Flora, an exhausted crawl inside. And this is what happened.

A little restaurants by the tracks - and off the beaten path - serves up fantastically fat-pattied burgers in downtown Flora, MS.
